Housebus Windows: The Continuing Story…
So, as I mentioned in my last post about the housebus windows, my next step was going to be to pull out the window I’d already re-sealed with butyl tape, and to re-do it with more attention paid to any visible weak spots. I went out yesterday fulling intending to do that, but I wasn’t able to get the window out! The only thing holding it in at the moment is some butyl tape and some weather stripping, and I’ll be damned if I couldn’t overpower that stuff. So, I did what I thought was the next best thing…
I took the tube of DAP adhesive I’d been using to glue pennies over the holes in the floor, and went around the window on the outside. I laid a good bead of the stuff along the edge below the window frame, and another bead along the bottom edge of the window sash. Finally, a third bead of adhesive along the bottom edge of the window pane, where the glass meets the metal, just in case it was the black weather seal that was failing. Using my finger, I even pushed some of the adhesive up over the corners of the metal window frame, any place where it looked like there might be a gap. I went ahead and did this final step over all the windows on that side of the bus, just in case. I don’t know, felt like the right thing to do.
Anyway, long story short, I just came back from getting a bag of trash from the housebus, and of course there is water again on the floor under this window. It was too dark to get a good look and see if I could figure out exactly where it came in from, but I think it’s safe to say that the steps I’ve taken so far still haven’t resolved the issue. What I hoped yesterday would be a quick fix to deal with it doesn’t seem to have made any difference at all, and now I have a bunch of glue I’ll need to scrape off to get back to square one and try to fix it right.
So, that’s tomorrow, if I can get up early enough to try to tackle this before I need to head out to work. I gotta say, The more times I’ve failed to fix this problem, the more convinced I am that I really need to figure this out before I refocus onto the subfloor.
