Housebus: Wall Framing Complete!
Hey, gang! Yesterday out in the bus, I was able to get the framing for the side walls completely finished (well, except the rear wall, which I’ve got other plans for). Using some of the reclaimed 2x4s I picked up the other day at ReclaimNW, I was able to install the heading runners above the windows. The heading runners will be useful when running wires throughout the bus, and for something to hang curtains from.
With the window headers in place, I was able to put up a header beam to mark the edge of the cab ceiling. This will also be the end of the floor of the sleep loft, and the location of the wall separating the mud room from the work space. I was finally able to get a real sense of the space I’d had in mind for the Mud Room, and the transition from the cab to the living space in the bus. It’s great to be able to feel the bus really becoming the home I’ve had in mind!
Unfortunately, the beam is right at eye level for me, so even with colorful duct tape on it so I’d notice it, I still walked into it like two or three times. I was reminded pretty painfully that I don’t tend to look up while I’m walking, so. Yeah. Decided to go ahead and take it back down for now. It’ll be easier to be aware of the low clearance when the walls and furniture are also in place around it. I hope.
Next up in this space, I’ll be starting to build out a small bookshelf/staircase to go next to the filing cabinet pantry and serve as the access for the loft. I’ll also start framing the wall that will serve to divide the office from the kitchen, and also the wall for the Mud Room. I’ll be able to start permanently installing the furniture after I insulate these walls and install wiring and electrical boxes for switches and outlets.
