Well, i finally made some progress in getting rid of most of the junk that’s been piled up in the bus for several months now, giving myself a bit more space to work and make progress on the next steps in the Demolition process.

What happened was, I was able to move my bus close enough to the corner here by my apartment that I was able to just open the back door and dump all the metal scrap onto the curb. I had been hoping and planning to drive the bus to the scrapyard so I could at least sell it all, but in the end I’m more anxious to continue on the actual demo and build than I am about getting a few bucks for the trouble. Plus, I know there’s a couple scrappers who trawl the neighborhood periodically, I have confidence it’ll be gone in a day or two.

I was also able to get rid of all the bits of large plastic and fiberglass insulation, was able to stack them all into my garbage bin for pick-up in the morning. Even managed to sweep out a little bit around the backdoor! So, now I have a pretty clear walkway all the way from the front of the bus to the back, and enough space to move the rest of the materials around so I can get access to the wall panels and flooring to finish pulling them out next weekend.

One new concern, though, is my fuel gauge is a lot lower than it was last time I noticed it, which means I won’t be able to drive very far to get fuel for it. Probably should look into getting a plastic fuel can and just grabbing a gallon of diesel here-and-there, whenever I fill up the tank on my car, or just whenever I get paid.

Also while I had the bus moved I met another neighbor who’s been curious about the project. He’s in construction and demo, so he had a lot of good advice for materials and techniques, and even offered to help out from time to time if I need it. Seems a cool guy, and he took some of the metal from my pile of scrap.

So, all in all, I’m counting today as a win for the bus. Not a lot of visible progress, as usual, but it’s another small weight off my mind, and another hour closer to having the conversion finished and livable!
