It’s long been one of my overarching goals with this project to use as much repurposed and salvaged materials as possible, and I’m expecting that pallet wood will be a big part of that. It’s a building material that’s readily available, typically free, and good for both structure and finish effect.

There’s more than a few channels on YouTube that I’ve subscribed to for their inspiring use of pallet wood, and this one I just found this morning is of particular interest, as he talks primarily about how he got started working with the material, the kinds of makeshift jigs he put together for himself to help work with the wood, and the way in which he was able to even grow a good-sized solo woodworking business out of making furniture with free pallets:
